Louis Smith showed his world class at the Glasgow Grand Prix this weekend, toppling Kristian Berki, his long-term rival who inched the Gold medal at the World Championships in Rotterdam just last month.
Despite a 6 hour car journey which saw Louis not arrive in Glasgow until the early hours of Friday morning, he stepped up for qualification and came through in first place.
He still needed to show consistency in his performance for the final on Saturday however and, showing no signs of pressure, Louis pulled off another flawless routine in front of the home crowd to claim the gold medal with a score of 15.550.
“I’m really pleased with my routine and the gold medal against a truly world class field in Glasgow, including the two former world champions,” said Louis.
“This year I’ve achieved everything I set out to do and next year I will be unleashing a bit more difficulty and continue to progress towards my goals at London 2012.”
